The Friends/Family tab is used for tracking people who are not members in their own right. In other words, these records are subordinate to the main member record and cannot exist without it. If they check-in to an activity, it is assumed that any charges are posted to the main member, not the family member. If the main record is deleted, all family records are deleted as well.
