Why do some members appear twice?

This situation normally only applies to MemberTies Professional.

The most common reason a membership records appears more than once in the Results tab of the Membership List is multiple addresses.  When you add more than one address on a membership record, there is a field on the Search tab of the membership list that becomes important. The field is called "Addresses," or "Address to Use", and it has options of "All Addresses", "Current Address", and "Non-Current Addresses". This field determines what addresses will be included when records are displayed.

Consider a record that has two addresses:

Home Address (marked as the current address)
Work Address

When you retrieve the membership list, the results will vary based on the setting in the Addresses field on the Search tab as follows:

Addresses field = "Current Address"

One "row" will show in the list. If your list shows address info, the data for the Home address will appear.

 

Addresses field = "All Addresses"

Two rows will show in the list. One is the member record with home address info, the other is the member record with work address info. There is still only one member, it just appears once for each address regardless of whether there is address info on the list.

 

Addresses field = "Non-Current Addresses"

One row will show in the list. If the list shows address info, the data for the Work address will appear.

 

So the short answer is simply to always set the Addresses field to "Current Address" when using the multiple address capabilities, and you'll never see a membership record appear more than once.
